Reiki is the universal energy that flows through all living things and supports the body’s natural healing abilities. Reiki practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in self and others.
In a Reiki treatment the client lies down or sits comfortably, fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands lightly on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, arms, knees, feet and back. Each position is held for two to five minutes, depending on the need of the client. The amount of time for the session may vary from 30 to 90 minutes. I have also demonstrated Reiki many times with the recipient sitting in a chair for a few minutes. Comments are positive with the person feeling relaxed and more centered or calm.
The client may feel heat, coolness or a tingling sensation from the practitioner’s hands. A warm and soothing energy flows from the hands into the client, promoting relaxation and releasing tension. A Reiki treatment can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate wellness and balance on all levels – physical, mental and emotional.
